Mishap #1

I am not a graceful person. I have never been nimble.

While acting on the stage my mishaps are few to name, but my "offstage" life is bursting with bumps and bruises of all sorts, including my knees and my ego.

It may have started when I was still inside my mother's womb as she fell down a flight of stairs. Now, I am smart as a whip, so no jokes about how 'the elevator doesn't go all the way up to the top floor'. But, maybe that one incident sparked a lifetime of misjudging how wide a door frame is or if my knee will fit crossed under a table.

I will try to express only a sprinkling of mishaps past. If a special embarrassing moment must be shared, I might drudge up a few chronicled misfortunes.

This is for the present. This is for the future. This is to make all of you feel a little better about yourselves...starting now.

Tonight, I went to the theater. I left a few minutes before showtime to get my daughter a treat. As I reentered the theater, there was some sort of technical difficulty resulting in a silence not usual for such an establishment. There was nothing to watch except me walking back into the theater. I was almost to our row near the back of the theater when I tripped up the stairs. I let out my loud laugh and the people I was with laughed right along. Thank heavens...I hate causing a scene, but I especially hate causing one where people rush to my aid.

How does one fall UP the stairs?

After I sat down, I enjoyed myself thoroughly.
